Food Recycling

Community Outreach Program

The Food Recycling Program, also known as the Community Outreach Program,  was the first of its kind in North Carolina and was actually begun by a University of North Carolina at Charlotte student, now faculty member.  For more information on the history of the program, check out http://www.uncc.edu/gchutchi/history.htm

Students volunteer to take leftover food from our campus cafeterias to the Urban Ministry Center, a local homeless shelter. Instead of good food being wasted, our university gives something back to our community by simply saving and collecting our leftovers!

Food Recycling – no summer runs;

Fall and Spring Semester runs every Monday and Thursday at 2:00pm.
If you are interested in participating, please call (704) 687-2541 or stop by King 119 to sign up. Teams of volunteers leave from King 119 at 2:00 pm and return to campus between 4:00 and 5:00.
