I came to UNC Charlotte in May 1997. Prior to my current position, I served as the Associate Dean of Students from May 1997-July 2000. During the 1997-1998 year, I also served as the Greek advisor since we did not have an Assistant Dean for Greek Life during this time. For the majority of the 1998-1999 academic year, I served as Acting Dean of Students.

I grew up in Lancaster, SC which is about 40 miles south of Charlotte. Coming to UNC Charlotte provided me with the wonderful opportunity to get to spend a great deal of time with my family which has been wonderful!

I love to travel and have been able to visit some wonderful places. My favorite places to visit are San Francisco, Washington, DC, and San Diego
(a "new find" on my list). I also like to spend time with my family and friends and enjoy reading and entertaining.

The best reason for working in higher education is most definitely the STUDENTS! It is so incredible to work with students throughout their college careers and see how they grow and develop. This is, by far, the best thing about my job and what brings me the most joy on a daily basis!

My family and friends bring me joy outside my job!

My overall philosophy guiding how I relate to students is to be a good role model and to 'talk my walk and walk my talk'. I set very high expectations for myself and for the students that I work with. However, I also try to be very supportive, understanding, and encouraging of those that I work with here at UNC Charlotte."
